Frequently Asked Questions

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Most people find acupuncture incredibly relaxing—a time for deep rest and rejuvenation. In some treatments, where the focus is on releasing tension in the body, you may experience a sensation that feels more "spicy" or intense. However, you’re always in control of your treatment, and we’ll ensure you’re comfortable throughout the process. Many people feel significantly better afterward, with a sense of relief and revitalisation.

How many sessions will I need?

The number and frequency of sessions required can vary from person to person. Your practitioner will advise you on a suitable treatment plan based on your individual needs. While some people experience significant improvements after just one or two sessions, healing can sometimes take time. In such cases, it’s a gradual process, like peeling the layers of an onion, where patience and commitment are key to fully resolving underlying issues.

It’s often recommended to begin with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, gradually spacing them out as your symptoms improve.

What to expect?

Sessions begin with a friendly conversation, where we discuss any health concerns and your relevant medical history. Your practitioner will take time to listen to your pulse, observe your tongue, and palpate key areas of your body to develop a tailored treatment plan just for you.

Treatment takes place on a comfortable treatment couch and may include a combination of acupuncture, moxa, gua sha, and cupping. Some needles are inserted briefly and then removed, while others may be retained for up to 40 minutes, depending on your needs.

Are there any recommendations before treatment?

It’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing and have a light meal about 1–2 hours before your session. Please ensure you’ve eaten something on the day of your appointment; coming on an empty stomach is not recommended. If you have any concerns on the day of your treatment, please feel free to speak with your practitioner, and let them know if there’s anything you’re uncomfortable with.

Can you treat babies, children and teens?

Yes! Many parents are pleasantly surprised at how well their child responds to acupuncture. We offer a range of gentle, no-needle techniques to tailor treatments for all ages, including stickers, press seeds, paediatric tui na, moxibustion, and cupping.

Does acupuncture work alongside western medicine?

Yes! We always recommend seeking Western medical advice when needed. Acupuncture is not a replacement for Western medicine; rather, it can complement it by supporting your body and helping to manage chronic conditions that may not always receive the attention they need within the mainstream healthcare system.
